I've been a bit lax, lately, what with one thing another... But now I am aiming to get this place kickstarted back to life.

I would like to say thank you to you all, for being a part of this group, and also to let you know that there will be new competitions coming up once I've decided on themes and prizes and stuff.

In the mean time, please feel free to submit anything you want to showcase here. We're a bit lonely.


:::About the Club:::

We are a fantastic community. We are not, as the name suggests, completely against anime and do not solicit any flaming or hate filled comments (From either members or visitors).

After all, we still watch and draw anime occasionally. We are, however, against the anime "religion" that is sweeping the globe in the form of "OMG-thats-so-KAWAII!!1!" tweenagers.

We at A-A-R represent a community where the original and unique is given a boost, where others who are of the same opinion can meet and showcase their work to a potentially wider audience.

We are an equal opportunities community, and anime artists are more than welcome to join us... as long as they have something original about their work. We do not like the generic.

If you wish to join, all we ask is that you add our icon somewhere on your page (i.e in your journal), and watch us for updates. (Journals and notes are a must). Please note either
or titling your note "request to join". Or for the hell of it, note the club too. We don't mind!

Hey. It's been a fun and interesting, but I can't really keep up with deviantART like I used to, and it's not really worth being a part of clubs I don't contribute to anymore. Plus I'm in a stage of my life where I'm trying to get myself in order.

As such, I'm forced to resign from the club.

Oh, god, what a great idea. I like anime, ok. A bit.But I don't run out, learn Japanese, wear all anime clothes, say KAWAII!!!!!1!1 all the time, ect. I do, however eat pocky, which is typicall asociated with rabid fangirls, but becuse it tastes so damn good, not because it's Japanese. I'm not much into joining clubs, but I do support you 100% in what this club stands for. Keep up the good work. :headbang:

I'm not much of a "joiner" when it comes to clubs, but I have to applaud the intention behind this one. I too have been somewhat dismayed by the over-abundance of the anime and manga style that has seemingly taken over the entire world... Not that there's anything wrong with anime and manga, just that there are other styles and schools worth exploring. When everything looks exactly the same, it gets kinda humdrum.

And I know this opinion makes me an old fuddy-duddy, but what can I say.

"When I was your age we didn't have any of this anime stuff, we had to find our own drawing style... And we had to walk to school 5 miles in the snow, uphill, both ways..."

Sorry, just ignore the old curmudgeon. ;-)

It's a community for artists to promote their artwork, no matter what style or media. It is a place where the "anime fandom" (or any other fandom for that matter) has no effect, and people can talk about their art without fear of being shot down for it, and where they can express their opinions without ridicule.

I honestly don't know, man. I like the concept of your club, as I've been very... outspoken about this issue during my active days here. Nowadays I just don't know what to do anymore.

As for my gallery... I think I do generic stuff. Probably all the more reason for me to quit drawing. But...

OH MY GAWD! I got to an Art school, and a close friend of mine handed me her sketch book so I can draw in my own little page like 10 other friends had drawn. All of it was in anime... man, you couldn't tell who was who's drawing if they didn't add their signature. Mine was the only, non-anime picture there. I gave it up three years ago since it was the only style people drew in. I don't hate anime... but it'd be nice if there were more variations in drawing styles =(

I practice drawing anime, but I know it's only at a rank 2/10 level so far, so I don't flaunt it. Unlike all THOSE people...*Shudders*
